HouseCall
online virus scanning - Here's a free service that I'm surprised
that no one else has thought of before now: online virus
scanning. There's nothing to install; just follow the
simple instructions. Developed by Trend Micro, HouseCall
scans for and cleans viruses via the Web through ActiveX
and Java technology. An advantage to this service is that
it's always up-to-date. This is a big plus, when you
consider that hundreds of new viruses emerge every week,
thus making regular anti-virus programs quickly obsolete.
ViruSafe
WEB - Essential
freeware virus scanner plug-in, compatible with all Web
browsers. Checks for viruses every time you download
files from the Internet. Whenever you download a file,
ViruSafe WEB will automatically scan it for viruses,
before it is saved to the disk. ViruSafe WEB can scan
programs, ZIP files and Word documents.
Anyware Antivirus - An
excellent free utility, Anyware will scan your computer
for viruses (and let you delete any infected files).
Anyware detects all the latest viruses, including
Polymorph, Stealth, Trojan Horse, Multi-Partite, E-mail,
Internet and macro viruses. Note: this free utility is a
scanner only; for virus-cleaning capabilities, you must
upgrade to the commercial product. Available for
Windows and DOS.
F-PROT antivirus utility - Data Fellows is giving away the DOS version
of their excellent F-PROT anti-virus utility. This
version is free for home users.
AntiVirus E-mail Update Notification - If you want to protect yourself
against computer viruses, you must do more than simply
download an anti-virus program. You need to keep it
current, with the latest updates. With this free service,
you will receive an automatic notification by E-mail
whenever there is a new release of the antivirus software
package(s) you use. You need register once and may send a
cancel command at any time.
Bootminder - Direct download: 106 kilobytes. This free utility will warn you if
a floppy is in your A: drive when closing down Windows.
This way, you won't start up with the floppy still in it.
Result: no boot-virus infection. Bootminder runs in the
background until you forget to remove your floppy.
For Windows.
