• MIDI Farm - This popular archive contains over 12,000 free MIDI and Karaoke files. There's a local search engine to help you find what you need. All files are "believed to be in the public domain." (i.e. free). Categories include anime, big band, bluegrass, Christian, holiday, classical, contemporary, country, dance, Disney, drum patterns, film, funk, game, Irish, Jazz, pop, ragtime, show tunes, TV, video games and more. There's also a comprehensive selection of MIDI utilities for both Macs and PCs.
  • MIDI Explorer Search Engine - Are you trying to locate a particular MIDI file quickly? This speedy search engine is the place to go. MIDI Explorer indexes over one million MIDIs on 90,000 pages by file and link name. This dictionary-style search engine will show you all of the different versions of a MIDI and can quickly locate rare songs.
  • Planet MIDI - A well-organized site, Planet MIDI contains hundreds of sound files in categories ranging from rock to classical to TV & film themes. There's also a new section that focuses on video game MIDIs (which is one of the largest sections of its type on the Web). Planet MIDI offers lots of information here on using, and getting the most out of, MIDI files, as well as a helpful discussion forum. The site is fast-loading and pop-up-ad free.
  • Scour.Net - Searching for a particular MIDI file on the Web? Or, for that matter, any type of multimedia file? Then check out this search engine. Our query for the word "Beatles," returned almost 800 matches, most of which were MIDI files. Be sure to read Scour.Net's disclaimer.
  • ~Mystiqal's~ Music Room - If you enjoy rock and pop, this is a must-visit site. There's over 920 MIDI tunes available here, representing many genres of rock 'n' roll from the 1970s through today. Selections include classic tunes by such stalwarts as the Stones, Dylan, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac and Neil Young. There's also a nice "Alternative" section, which includes artists like Alanis Morissette, Radiohead and Sarah McLachlan.
  • The Midi-Place - A nicely-designed free MIDI resource from Denmark, this site offers many sound files, arranged alphabetically by artist. There are movie and TV themes, jazz and Danish-related files. Lots of top popular music artists are here, as well. Tell Leif we sent you.
  • Guitar Online - This relatively small but growing German archive features not only free MIDIs, but also guitar chords, so you may learn to play the tunes yourself, while you listen to them. All documents are in ZIP form for faster downloads. A nice idea.
  • MIDIPalace98 - This Malaysian site offers lots of "hand-picked" MIDI files here in uncompressed form, so you can just click them to hear them. However, you'll need a Java-enhanced browser (read: a non-ancient browser) to access this site. Categories include music in the following categories: Asian, Hymns, Jazz, Themes and more.
